JumpStart 5th Grade Adventures is a two-CD set that uses the "AdJust for You" learning system, designed to monitor the level of skill displayed by the user and continually adjust the difficulty accordingly.
Specifically, an assessment technology initially determines the child's abilities and skills, then an adaptive learning technology allows the student to move forward at his or her individual pace utilizing a tutor for assistance whenever required. Parents and caregivers can monitor advancement of skills with the help of in-depth progress reports. The first CD in the set, "Jo Hammet: Kid Detective," is an adventure-based learning experience in which kids take the role of a skateboarding amateur crime-solver who tries to thwart the mad genius Dr.
X and save Hooverville from destruction. Using math, critical thinking, visual reasoning, vocabulary skills, and more, players must gather clues, escape from a dungeon, unlock secret codes, solve the mystery, and save the city. The second disc, "Adventure Challenge," also features Jo and provides challenges such as snowboarding, in-line skating, mountain biking, rock-climbing, and more, along with the ability to create and print a personally designed magazine displaying the accomplishments.
In addition to the five adventure games contained in Adventure Challenge, extra games can be downloaded from the official developer's website.
Rounding out the package is a bonus CD developed by Kaplan, Math for the Real World, that puts players in a band touring the country trying to earn enough money to create its own video. More than 4, math problems cover topics such as money, percentages, fractions, decimals, time management, and measurements. When the city of Hoverville has electric problems from the evil Dr.

In sections where the player is given options for what Jo should say next i. If the conversation reaches a dead end, players go back to the beginning of the dialog tree. The line choices are arranged with the correct answers first, then all the alternate options in alphabetical order. This is because the order the lines are presented in is always randomized.
Minus the Nevermind choice, which is always presented last. In dialog trees that are marked as optional, the player may either exhaust every option, or press the Esc key to exit out of the conversation and click on the sabotaged site to proceed. To prevent spoilers, segments that require player input such as the dialog tree and mind reading activity answers are hidden behind [Expand] tags.
Note: the juice bar, junkyard, and mine shaft segments within each mission can be played in any order. This transcript simply lists these segments in alphabetical order. Whenever Jo needs to visit a sabotaged site, or the dam, she will simply repeat her mission when the help icon is clicked, i.
Note: Maggie Mead will list off her instructions when clicking the help icon at any point during the mine shaft activity, but these can be extremely varied depending on what she wants.

Pearlite 0 point. This game is a lot more story-heavy than the other JumpStart titles. The player has to visit each location and play each game in order because of story progression. Other JumpStart titles gave the player control of the direction or at least randomized the order. There's no side-tracking in this one.
That said, the story is pretty great. Jo Hammett single-handedly stops an evil scientist who plans to destroy the city one building at a time. It's short enough that it can be finished in an afternoon if you know what you're doing.
If you're not in a hurry, you can provoke the non-productive options in the dialogue trees for the jokes. Unlike the glorified multiple choice gameplay of JumpStart 6th Grade, many of the puzzles in JumpStart 5th Grade require reading for information and open-ended number manipulation, so you may have to slow down and plan ahead.
This can be frustrating to a first-timer without a lot of patience, but all the answers you need can be found inside the game if you know where to look.
