The family is of Jewish heritage. After living in Bloomington and later Swampscott, MassachusettsRoth moved to Pasadena in his teens. He "bounced around" a number of schools and saw a psychiatrist for three years, eventually attending a ranch for troubled teens, where he cared for a horse to build a sense of responsibility.
During this period Roth worked as a hospital orderly. In his late teens, he was singing solo, as well as with a group called the Red Ball Jets. Roth says this name was a reference to the red dye used in food at that time, including red candy balls, which would exacerbate his hyperactivity and lead to "Monkey Hour" at the family home.
Red Ball Jets is also the name of a brand of sneakers popular from to Roth agreed to join Mammoth as lead singer. Inwhen told that another act was using the name, they changed their name from Mammoth to Van Halen. Performing original and cover songs, Van Halen eventually gained local success, becoming a regular feature at the Starwood Club. During their four-month stint there they were discovered. In earlyWarner Brothers' Ted Templeman came to the Starwood, heard the group, and signed them to a contract.
Released inthe debut album Van Halen earned the band significant national attention. The album eventually sold more than 12 million copies by The original Van Halen released five more successful albums over the next seven years. Roth is often credited with promoting Van Halen's image as the quintessential rock band, one devoted to a lifestyle described by David Fricke in Rolling Stone as "a nonstop booze-and-babes party train.

Despite the band's success, a creative rift developed between Roth and Eddie Van Halen early on.
Eddie constructed his own recording studio at home duringwhich led to a conflict with the rest of the band as it allowed him to create music without their input. Furthermore, he began to move towards a more radio-friendly pop direction with keyboards and synthesizers; Roth insisted that the band should play straight hard rock with only guitars and drums.

Inrumors swirled that Roth and the members of Van Halen had recorded several new songs together and were attempting yet another reunion.

Edmund's Academy and Shadyside Academy, and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania. After living in Washington, D. He appreciated spending time in Florida and eventually became a resident but kept his Pennsylvania roots. He enjoyed cars, motorcycles, reading and fishing. He had a passion for business, the stock market and providing for family.
He had an exceptionally devoted circle of friends spanning generations and including many four-legged companions. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his daughter, Allison; his brother, Robert Candy ; his sister, Linda Whitman Charlie ; and their extended families. A celebration of his life is planned for this summer in Ligonier, Pa.

After 44 years of serving Battle Creek, Rost has retired and is selling the property where the practice was located. Rost and his wife, Jean, traveled to Battle Creek to check out the city. But I talked to someone who told me that I would never be able to get through Meijer without being held up by seeing someone I knew, and that made me believe it was a good place for us.
Some of his most memorable instances occurred during his time at Binder Park Zoo.

Brett Linsley, manager of wildlife, education and conservation at Binder Park Zoo, has worked alongside Rost for 20 years. When Linsley first joined the staff at the zoo inhe was new to the industry. Rost became a mentor to him and helped jumpstart his career. Linsley said he was also impressed with how quickly Rost was able to adapt to working with exotic animals when he was mainly working with small, domestic breeds out of his clinic.
At the end of the day, Rost will remember his career for not only the animals he built relationships with, but the families that he served for decades. Rost retired because his grandchildren are growing up "and I want to be around that as much as possible," he said. The property at W Columbia Ave. There's a good chance it will no longer be an animal hospital. But Rost's legacy will live on in Battle Creek. Rost Veterinary Hospital, is named after him. And hundreds of Battle Creek animals he's treated over the years hold a part of that legacy.

From on, he became a leading figure in the House of Prayer movement, which affected somemembers of religious orders in the United States and Canada. On a two-month lecture tour in Australia, for example, he gave lectures and traveled 12, miles within Australia without backtracking.
His wide spectrum of audiences has included starving students in Zaire and faculty at Harvard and Columbia Universities, Buddhist monks and Sufi retreatants, Papago Indians and German intellectuals, New Age communes and Naval Cadets at Annapolis, missionaries on Polynesian islands and gatherings at the United Nations, Green Berets and participants at international peace conferences. Brother David has brought spiritual depth into the lives of countless people whom he touches through his lectures, his workshops, and his writings.
His books have been translated into many languages. Gratefulness, the Heart of Prayer and A Listening Heart have been reprinted and anthologized for more than two decades.
Brother David co-authored Belonging to the Universe winner of the American Book Awarda dialogue on new paradigm thinking in science and theology with physicist, Fritjof Capra. Brother David has contributed chapters or interviews to well over 30 books. His many audio and videotapes are widely distributed.
